Plus energy building: Operational definition and assessment

Considering the amount of existing buildings, decarbonizing building stock requires new buildings designed to reach highest performance. The nearly-Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) standard needs be overtaken by Plus (PEB) that presents potential produce more energy than consumption over a specific period. Several studies investigated achieve plus balance, however, there is still lack comprehensive and shared framework for designing assessing performance PEB. To cope with this issue, authors identified series key aspects stated in consistent PEB, particular: i) balance contributions, ii) physical boundaries, iii) time span assessment, iv) metrics evaluating PEBs, v) approach load matching grid interaction, vi) Indoor Environmental Quality user satisfaction as added values performed review identifying 82 papers dealing PEB deducing how have been addressed. literature overview provides background proposing an definition introduce operational assessment focused on providing main statements focusing evaluation both during design operative phase.
